TL 72 NW SHALFORD WATER LANE (south side) 3/85 Sleepy Hollow

Cottage, circa 1570, altered in C20. Timber framed, plastered, roof thatched. 2 bays facing NW, with C18 external stack at right end (upper part rebuilt) and C20 external stack at left end. C20 single-storey extension to rear of left bay. One storey with attics. 2 C20 casements, C20 door at front of gabled porch. In the rear wall there are 3 C17 horizontally sliding sashes of 18 lights with some contemporary glass, one enclosed by the rear extension, and one of 12 lights in the right return wall, re-sited. The interior has jowled posts, curved braces trenched inside heavy studs, chamfered transverse beams with lamb's tongue stops, plain joists of horizontal section, original rebated floorboards. Blocked window in upper storey of left return wall, with diamond mullions.
