Details

ASHBY WOULDS PARK ROAD, MOIRA SK 31 NW 1/29 No. 5 (Engine 22.12.80 House Cottage) II Engine house, now cottage, of 1805. Red brick with brick dentilled eaves, cambered lintels and plain tile roof with end stack on facing gable and stack on outshut to right. 2 storeys and attic. Gable facing has blocked door and 2-light casement and blocked arched opening in gable with 2 cross beams in brickwork beneath. Left side has 9-pane below with 3-light casement above and blocked 1st floor door. Rear has door under larger blocked arch and attic casement. Later outshuts to right have casements and door. Built in 1805 (date painted on beam) to house beam pumping engine for local colliery and converted to workers' hostel in later C19. Retains spring beam and bob wall amongst original features.
