10/104 Barn and adjoining shelter shed approx. 6.1.86 10 metres to north- east of Bowdler's House

GV II

Barn and shelter shed, now partly garage. Late C16 barn with adjoining mid-C19 shelter shed. Weatherboarded timber frame, of cruck construction, on sandstone rubble plinth; corrugated iron roof. Barn of 3 framed bays. Framing: square panels, 2 from sole plate to wall plate. Framing partly removed from south-east side forming open front. Pair of boarded garage doors in south-west gable end. Interior of barn: 4 full cruck trusses with tie-beams (some removed), collars,and Alcock apex-type L2; purlins with cusped wind braces. Shelter shed adjoining at right angles to south-east with red sandstone rubble side and rear walls, sandstone slate roof and 4-bay open front with timber joists and short braces. The barn and shelter form 2 sides of a fold yard and are part of a small farmstead group which also includes Bowdler's House (q.v.). Alcock, pp.96 and 145.
