Details
PITCHFORD C.P. - SJ 5204-5304 12/122 North Lodge
- GV II Gate lodge. Circa 1848 with early and late C20 additions. Dressed snecked red sandstone with ashlar dressings; extended in undressed snecked red sandstone and reconstituted stone; hipped plain tile roof. Square plan with later additions; Tudor Gothic style. One storey. Plinth, brick ridge stack consisting of 2 star-shaped shafts with oversailing tops. 2-light leaded casements with raised chamfered surrounds. East front: 1:1:1 bays; central porch has coped parapeted gable with truncated finial, chamfered Tudor-arch doorway with C20 glazed doors and plain armorial shield above. North front: 1:1:1 bays; central projecting square bay has coped parapeted gable with finial, and window with 3 pointed-arched leaded lights and returned hoodmould; additions set back to right with 2 windows. Central bay to south too. Interior not inspected. The lodge is shown on the Pitchford tithe map of 1848. This is one of two gate lodges to Pitchford Hall (qv) with no. 11 (The Lodge) (q.v.) Salop Records Office, document No.3348/T/1-2.
