Details
HOLCOMBE ROGUS ST 01 NE 5/88 Barn and cow house approximately 8 - metres west of Burrow Farmhouse GV II Barn and cow house. Late C18 -early C19 barn with mid - late C19 cow house. Local chert rubble with larger, more carefully shaped quoins; slate roofs. Plan: barn and adjoining cow house but on slightly different axes but basically facing west. The threshing barn to left has opposing central full height doorways onto the threshing floor. The cowhouse alongside to right has a hayloft over and returns forward a short distance at the right end. Exterior: the barn has short projecting midstrey walls to the full height doorway and contains a solid plain timber doorframe and double doors, (similar to rear). The cowhouse has an arcade of 6 round-headed arches and there are 2 hayloft loading hatches. The projecting room has a doorway in the side and in the end a ground floor window under a low segmental arch and a hayloft loading hatch. Both buildings are gable-ended. The main roof steps down from cow house to barn. Interiors: have plain carpentry detail. The barn is open to an A-frame truss roof with plate yokes. The cow house roof is carried on scissor-braced trusses.
