SADDLEWORTH BROWNHILL LANE SD 9906 (south side)

9/21 No. 2A (Lower Brownhill - House) - II House. Late C18. Hammer-dressed watershot stone with graduated stone slate roof. Single and double-depth 2-bay house with 3 storeys. Bay window, conservatory and small C20 extension to ground floor. Bay 1 has paired C19 sash windows on the upper floors replacing the earlier mullioned windows. Bay 2 has 6-light recessed flat-faced stone mullion windows to the upper floors. C19 porch to left gable with stair window above. 2-light gable windows and small wing to right. Rear has 6 and 3-light mullion windows which retain original leaded panes. Many of the alterations to the original building were made by John Rooth - canal agent, c.1810.
