SS 43 NW GEORGEHAM HOBBS HILLS (south-east side) Croyde 6/131 Chapel Farmhouse and outbuilding - adjoining to north-east 1l.6.75 GV II
Farmhouse and Smithy, now house and outbuilding. Probably C17 extended to rear in C20. Outbuilding C18. Coursed rubble, possible some cob to upper storey which is whitewashed rendered. Half-hipped thatch roof with capped rubble stack at right end and rendered lateral hall stack with shallow projecting bread oven to front, both heightened in brick. Outbuilding has pantiled roof and lateral brick stack on left side. House 3-cell through-passage plan although straight joint in masonry to right of hall window suggests upper end may have been rebuilt, brought out or is a later addition. Large C20 addition to rear and to each end. Outbuilding adjoins at right angles to left end of main range. House is 2 storeys. 3-window range of C18/19 3-light casements, that above canopy has 12-paned centre light and 6 panes to each side, those to right have 8 panes per light. Off-centre doorway at lower end with slated lean-to canopy and C20 plank door in angle of stack projection with Cl7 5-light mullion window, one mullion replaced in metal. C18/19 tripartite hornless sash at upper end, 6 over 6 panes with sidelights under timber lintel and 2 sashes to right, 8 over 8 panes. Outbuilding with pantiled outshut to right side has 2-light opening with plank door over 2-light window, 6 panes each light at street gable end. Interior of house not inspected.
