3/337 The Old Manor Mill and Mill Wheel
GV II
Watermill and millwheel. Early C19 and circa 1860. Shale rubble, partly grouted, with granite quoins, slate sills, shallow brick arches and wooden lintels. Hipped scantle slate roof to original part at rear with low pitched mostly lean-to roof over later part at front and small lean-to at rear. Rectangular 2-storeys mill with wheel at right-hand (north) side, lean-to at rear and 3-storeys mill/warehouse building added circa 1860 blocking original front and extending to right, built into bank and leat exit at rear. East front has 5 windows to first floor, all horned sashes except second from left which has fixed light and was once a loading door. Large doorway at ground floor left with small doorway almost adjoining to right and two 2-light casements to far right, second floor openings to far left and middle. Roof dormer, formerly over second bay and linked to original building behind, now truncated. Interior not inspected. Mill Wheel has iron frame, probably made at Perran Foundry. Mill on this site probably predates the use of water from the Kennal River for the nearby Perran Iron Foundry qv, founded in 1791.
