7/250 Lonon Farmhouse - II
Farmhouse. Circa early-mid C19. Coursed slatestone to front with dressed granite quoins, jambstones, lintels and ashlar course at lintel level, slate sills; sides and rear are painted rubble. Three-quarter hipped slurried scantle slate roof with large slates used for eaves course. Tall brick chimneys over the side walls. Plan: double depth plan left with parlour at the front and shallow pantry behind; full depth kitchen, right with the stair against the rear wall and cross passage in the middle. C20 addition at rear and on the right. Gothic style windows. 2 storeys. Nearly symmetrical 3 window south-east front with central doorway. Original Gothic style windows and door in original openings. 4-panel door with the top panels forming a pointed arch and 2-light casement windows with pointed-arched lights and glazing bars forming Y-tracery. Only the left hand light of each window opens, hung from the central mullion on pin-tail hinges. Two 16-pane hornless sashes survive to the rear at first floor middle and right. Interior : little altered since the C19 with exposed ceiling beams, straight flight stick baluster stair and panelled doors. An unspoiled C19 house with attractive mixture of slatestone and granite at the front and further enhanced by the original Gothic style door and windows. The use of granite ashlar lintel course is also interesting, compare Hillcrest qv., nearby, of similar date and Tregoose Farmhouse qv., which has similar detail but is of circa early C18.
