Details

BOWES SLED DALE NY 91 NE 15/189 Levy Pool Farmhouse II Farmhouse. Dated 1736 with initials G & M.A on door lintel; later additions and alterations. Coursed squared sandstone with plinth and large horizontal quoins. Ling thatched roof with flag eaves courses. 2-cell plan with original left rear outshut, probably dairy. Two low storeys, 3 bays. Added central porch laterally pent. Windows, with flat stone surrounds, mullions removed and diagonal bar holes, on both floors flanking porch. Small fire window on ground floor left. Steeply-pitched roof with reverse-stepped gables. Stair turret and right outshut added behind.

Interior shows full-height stout masonry partition dividing hall, which is entered directly from porch, from right room, probably once divided into front parlour and rear service room. Small fireplace in front part. Large C18 fireplace in left end wall of main hall.

Empty and derelict at time of survey, with roof and ceilings fallen in and openings blank.
