4/24 Penhale, Tresco and Chyandour Cottage
GV II
2 adjoining houses. Probably C18. Painted rubble walls with slate sills and wooden lintels. Concrete tile and asbestos slate roofs with gable ends. Brick chimney over right hand gable and rear left hand gable. Plan: overall irregular U-shaped plan. 2 houses each with 2 rooms at the front with cross passage between and with a service wing at right angles behind the right-hand room of each house. The left hand service wing is now a separate house (Chyandour Cottage). Exterior : 2 storeys. Overall slightly irregular 4 window south front. Each house has 2 window front with doorway between the ground floor windows. The left hand house (Penhale) least altered with old irregularly sized small paned casements, the first floor left and the right hand window openings much wider with 3-light casements. Tresco, right has C20 small paned casements in irregularly sized original openings. C20 doors. Interior not inspected except passage of Chyandour which has muntin and plank partitions. Cobbled forecourt. A Portuguese coin, 10 escados dated 1743 was found in Chyandour Cottage recently (1986).
