1. 5135 HIGH STREET (North-East Side) Stony Stratford No 48 SP 7840 1/33 12.6.53.

2. Early C18 on earlier building. 2 storey ashlar sandstone house with steep pitched partly tiled roof with flat stone coping on the gables, plain kneelers supported by moulded consoles. 1 early and 1 late brick chimney stack. 2 pedimented dormers. Small plinth, band at first floor level, chamfered quoins and heavy modillion eaves cornice. 4 windows to 1st floor (3rd from left blind), 3 to ground floor, entrance under blind window. Windows are sash in wooden cases and have narrow wooden architraves. Plain cills. Plain lintel to 1st floor windows while heads of the ground floor windows have light carving and keystones. Entrance, approached by 2 carved consoles, narrow wooden doorcase, panelled reveals and soffit, panelled door with rectangular light above it. Early C17 half timbered brick filled wing at the rear, mullion eaves cornice; 8 panel door; large stack. This house is considerably higher than the 2-storey houses south of it, and in relation to No 50, a 3-storey house, is almost as high to the eaves and the ridge is higher. Railings before covered area. Interior panelled throughout on ground and 1st floors. Front room on ground floor has doorhead with segmental pediment; shell niche inside. Fine staircase with applied carved strings, 3 balusters to a step, exagerated ramps, quarter landings have star inlays.

Nos 36 to 58 (even) High street form a group [Nos 54 and 56 are of local interest]
