Details

SENNEN SENNEN COVE SW 32 NE 4/358 Breakwater, adjoining slipway and - retaining walls GV II Breakwater, including adjoining slipway and retaining walls. Datestone 1908 on breakwater. Built with money raised by public subscriptions raised by the "untiring efforts" of Colonel H.W. Williams of St Ives, J.P._. Unhewn rockfaced granite reinforced with concrete lacing on top the width of the- wall. Breakwater is of granite rubble with granite dressings. Retaining walls are of roughly-hewn vertically-set granite blocks. Breakwater is straight on plan with curved end to deflect the prevailing waves. At the landward end are adjoining retaining walls fronting a quay of former complex of fishery buildings (the present car park). A wide slipway runs at an angle down to the beach from this quay. The beach inside the breakwater is free of surface rocks, probably cleared when the quay was erected.
