ST BREWARD CHURCHTOWN, St Breward SX 07 NE 5/200 Ladydown House, Four Seasons and - house forming north east wing II
Former vicarage, now divided into 3 houses. Circa 1851 possibly extended in the later C19. Built for Rev. George Martin. Snecked granite ashlar with dressed quoins, granite lintels and cills. Slate roof with hipped end on left and gable end on right; right hand and rear wing with slate roofs with hipped ends and deep overhanging eaves. Granite ashlar axial and end stacks. Plan: The original plan of the vicarage is uncertain. The earlier house appears to comprise the front range, now Ladydown House; probably of overall 'L' shaped plan, the left hand room heated by an end stack, entrance near centre and right hand room and further room in a wing to rear probably by an axial stack. The range on right (Four Seasons) is probably slightly later in date, with a plan of 2 reception rooms facing the garden to south east, and a porch on rear leading directly into a wide stair hall. The wing to rear left of Ladydown House is probably contemporary and of 1 room and rear entrance plan. Exterior: 2 storeys. Asymmetrical 3 window front to Ladydown House with glazed C20 porch near centre flanked by sashes, the left hand sash with margin glazing bars. First floor with 16-pane, 12-pane and 20 pane sashes. To right, garden front with symmetrical 2 window front, the original C19 sashes with margin glazing bars. Granite ashlar porch to rear with flat roof. Interior: Interior of 'Four Seasons' has original fittings and C19 stair with stick balusters and moulded and wreathed mahogany rail. Polsue, J Lake's Parochial History of the County of Cornwall 1897, reprinted 1974.
