6/71 Stable block at Ashfold School -
GV II
Former stables,now part school-rooms. C17, altered late C18 and C20. N. front is of red and vitreous brick above rubble stone plinth with moulded coping. Brick parapet with moulded stone string below. Left side is of coursed rubble stone. Courtyard walls are part rubble stone, part C20 brick. Hipped tile roofs. Courtyard plan. N. front of 5 bays has C20 windows in altered openings, and central ashlar bay with pediment and depressed arch. Early C20 wooden bellcote above. Walls to courtyard have some stone cross windows, probably re-sited. The side ranges each with a 4-centred stone arched doorway. Other C20 openings. Range to right side retains stabling. Single storey bay of stone and brick, now garage, to right of N. front. Another range is attached to S.E. corner. C20 brick house attached to S.W. corner is not of special interest.
