House. Circa late C17 or early C18. Stone rubble with granite dressings including granite qouins, string course, window cills and window and doorway arches. Slate hung with rag slates above first floor on front. Stone rubble end stacks with brick shafts and stone rubble end stack to rear wing with granite string and brick shaft. Plan: 2 room and wide through passage plan, the stair on the right handside of the passage. The larger left hand room was probably the kitchen and has a service room behind in a shallower parallel range of 1 room plan : the smaller right hand room was probably the parlour originally with a cellar below which has an entrance at the lower ground level of the right end. Exterior: 2 storeys, attic and cellar. Almost symmetrical 3 window front with moulded granite string above ground floor and slate hanging. Original window openings with cambered granite arches and granite cills with 16-pane sashes replaced in late C20. Doorway to right of centre has late C20 6-panel door and rectangular overlight in original door opening with cambered stone arch. At the rear the central late C20 stair window replaces an early C18 sash with small panes: and a large gabled dormer above with a 1985/6 gothic window which replaces the C19 original of similar design. A short parallel back range to right has a moulded eaves cornice. Interior: wide hall with granite flags. C18 stair on right hand side with closed string, turned balusters and deep unmoulded handrail. Stair gate with ramped top rail. Room to right has circa late C17 plaster ceiling with central quatrefoil motif and moulded cornice. Left hand room has large fireplace with roughly coursed granite jambs and chamfered timber lintel. Roof structure not inspected. An especially fine house in picturesque setting.
