Details

SP 9435-9536 ASPLEY GUISE CHURCH STREET 5/12 Dove House Cottage GV II Former dovecote belonging to the Old House, converted to cottage C19, refenestrated C20. Later C18. Red brick with random scattering of vitrified headers. Clay tile roof, hipped to lower part; gablet to upper part. Small square structure, 2 storeys and attics. Ground floor has 2 2-light casements each to W and E elevations, E ones flanking a glazed door. First floor has small round-arched single lights to W, S and E elevations, S and E ones with gauged brick heads. Attic has small box dormers. All windows have glazing bars. Brick band at first floor level. Brick dentil cornice to eaves. Gablet has 3 rows of doveholes to each end. To N the major part of the property is formed by 2 converted barns arranged in and L-plan. Both are weatherboarded with clay tile roofs. They were imported from elsewhere during the C20 renovations and are therefore not of historic interest.
