ST GORAN SW 94 SE 3/80 Barn about 30 metres north east of - Tregarton Farmhouse
GV II
Barn. C18, with few later alterations. Slatestone rubble with granite quoins. Scantle slate roof with ridge tiles; some hand-made crested ridge tiles remaining; gable ends. Plan: Large rectangular barn with a symmetrical front; there is a cow house at ground floor and threshing loft above. The barn is built into the bank at the rear. At the left end there is an addition, probably of circa early C19, with hipped roof. There is a wing attached to front right which is not included. Exterior: 2 storeys, a symmetrical front on chamfered plinth with drain holes. At ground floor there is a central double doorway with cambered rubble arch; to right and left there is a single doorway with cambered brick arch; to each side of the single doorways there is a small round-arched window opening with keystone. At first floor there are two blocked loading doors, with the supports remaining for pentices and timber lintels. There are two central ventilation slits and ventilation slit at each outer end. The addition to left is 2-storey; at the front there is a doorway with cambered stone arch and projecting keystone, and ventilation slit. At the left end there is a ground floor window with cambered stone arch with projecting keystone and first floor window with flat granite lintel. To the rear of the addition there are two ventilation slits at ground floor and a single window at first floor. At the rear of the main barn, there are two blocked doorways with timber lintels, the one to left with supports remaining for a pentice. There are plank double doors to right with slate pentice and C20 lean-to to right. Interior: The walls are plastered in the loft. The roof has principal rafters halved and crossed at the apex with halved and pegged collars.
