House; formerly an addition to the Manor House (q.v.). Early C19, with rear
addition of circa mid C19 and C20 alterations. Painted stone rubble. Asbestos slate
roof with ridge tiles and gable end to left, hipped end to right; stack at the right
end with brick shaft.
Plan: One-room plan with entrance passage to left and room to right heated from a
stack at the right end. Rear wing of 2-room plan, with stair, small central room and
rear room heated from a gable end stack.
Exterior: 2 storeys, asymmetrical 2-window front. First floor has two C19 4-pane
sashes. Ground floor has C20 single storey addition along the whole front. Inner
C20 door and French window. Right end blind with C20 single storey addition. Rear
wing has 2 C20 windows at first floor and one at ground floor to right, single storey
C20 addition set in the angle to the main range.
Interior: This has been much altered, but the room at first floor in the main range
retains an early C19 mural painting which appears to cover all the walls of the room.
The colouring is green, pink, ochre and black, with a design of vine leaves and
grapes, stencilled; there is polychromatic banding similar to a cable moulding
design, with a dado frieze. Two roundels, and an area above the door, a section of
the dado have been exposed, and the painting appears to continued around the whole
room. This is an extremely rare survival; the painting which has been exposed is in
good condition.
