1/48 No. 49 (The Masham Hotel) - II Public house, mid C19; with 1913/14 ground-floor frontage by Kitching and Lee (Middlesbrough). Dormer windows added 1892. Roughcast, scored to imitate masonry, with vermiculate quoins and wedge lintels. Polychrome faience frontage on ground floor. Welsh slate roof and renewed brick stack. Occupies corner site. 2 storeys, 2 windows. Entered from left return. Square panels with wreaths, under timber mullioned-and-transomed windows, in moulded surrounds. Richly-etched glass in lower panes, coloured leaded lights above. Frieze and cornice, with enriched consoles flanking bays. Similar window, in chamfered left corner of ground floor, under quadrant hood with mosaic lettering: "MASHAM HOTEL" in panel, and scrolled projecting cornice with festoon. Right canted bay window on brackets, on first floor; sashes. Scrolled iron bracket, with late C20 hanging sign, between bays. Bracketed eaves cornice. Roof hipped at corner. Gabled roof dormer with paired renewed windows and altered bargeboards. Similar 2-window left return has 3 bays to ground floor. Right panelled double doors, with overlight and sidelights, in moulded surround. Late C19 rear extension not of special interest.
