Details
GWENNAP BURNCOOSE SW 73 NW 6/107 Burncoose House - GV II Country house. Circa early C19 extended and remodelled circa early-mid C19. Granite ashlar and freestone ashlar with rubble service wings. Dry Delabole hipped slate roofs with projecting eaves, except gable end with rendered brick chimney over external breast, to original part east. Main rendered brick chimney over middle of axial wall of west, principal, wing. Originally probably 2-room central stair plan with rear (north east) service wing forming L shaped plan, then west room of house wholly or partly demolished and replaced with square double-depth block, partly projecting to front (south), of 1-room wide with entrance hall to right. Later C19 service wing added to rear middle, adjoining and parallel to earlier wing. Further service areas beyond to north, have since been demolished. 2 storeys. 3- and 2- window south front. Earlier granite ashlar front, set back to right, survives from probably symmetrical 5-window front originally with central doorway. Later part, projecting forward by l-bay has doorway, right with simple Tuscan stone doorcase with plain pilasters and simple entablature. Pair of panelled doors. Windows to left of doorway are grouped slightly closer. Ground floor windows of south fronts are 2-pane sashes but first floor windows are original 12-pane hornless sashes left and 16-pane sahes, right, all with internal shutters. Fine circa early C20 conservatory with canted end to west adjoins west side wall and roof has lantern ventilator with crested ridge. Many sashes to rear wings. Interior not inspected but may have original doors, plaster ceilings and stairs of high quality judging by the quality of the exterior.
