Farmhouse, now large house. Late C16 and C17, altered C18 and mid C20.
Mostly brick but east wing timber framed with brick infill; old tile gabled
roofs. L-plan with C17 extension in internal angle, and wing of 4 framed
bays to east. 2 storeys and attics. Strings at first floor and eaves
levels. Chimney on ridge to left of centre in timber framed part. Windows
are sashes with glazing bars and casements with glazing bars. North front:-
gable on right with blocked circular light with quadrant key blocks in
tympanum, a C17 wooden mullioned and transomed window of 8 lights on first
floor, string carried up to form drip mould, and a 5-pane late C18 sash on
ground floor with older flanking bricked openings. Adjoining to the left
are 2 bays of upper small 2-light casements, C18 to left on ground floor
and early C18 2-panelled door in eared architrave to right. Further to the
left is a plastered gable with small one storey gabled projecting room on
ground floor, one sash and to left of this gable a small upper 2-light
casement and service door. South front:- gable on left has blocked oval
light in tympanum, sash window on first floor and a C20 small paned
french door on ground floor. Adjoining to the right is a one bay extension
in angle, with 1 sash over early C19 door, part glazed. The wing to the
right has timber framed upper part, brick lower, with 2-light upper
casements and two 2-light wooden mullioned and transomed windows on
ground floor, with a C20 paned garden door on right of this. Interior:-
large moulded beams on ground floor and a very fine late C16 framed newel
staircase. The house stands on a moated site.
