6/78 Church Side Farmhouse 5th June 1964 (formerly listed as "Old Rose and Crown Inn")
GV II
Farmhouse, now house. Late C17 (but with rainwater head dated 1642, probably ex situ and including some earlier fabric; altered, enlarged and recently renovated. Sandstone rubble with quoins, stone slate roof. Double-pile plan by later addition to rear. Two-and-a-half storeys; symmetrical facade of 3 bays with chamfered square-headed doorway in the centre, an inserted 16-pane sashed window above, and over this a lead rainwater head with raised lettering " S "; double-chamfered 3-light stone mullioned windows on each 1642 IM floor to the left and at 1st floor to the right, all with straight drip-moulds over, and C18 triple window with square flush mullions to the right of the door; breaking through the eaves, 2 very large gabled dormers with 3-light mullioned windows, recently rebuilt. Gable coping with kneelers, large external chimney stack at each gable; left gable wall has a 2-light window on each floor, right-hand gable has one at 1st floor, all like those at front. Rear range, C19, of less interest.
Interior: 3 stop-chamfered beams; in each front room a rectangular fireplace with chamfered surround, that in the left larger, and with small rectangular recess to the right (perhaps former salt cupboard); rear wall of right-hand room incorporates a chamfered doorway (blocked) to an earlier building.
