GV II

Cotton weaving mill with warehouse, now (1990) used for alternative commercial purposes. Dated 1863. Built for William Richmond. Roughly squared coursed millstone grit rubble; slate roofs. Warehouse, 2 storeys and basement, with weaving sheds to south, the latter enclosed by a perimeter wall. Warehouse (Westgate elevation), 11 bays, follows the gentle curve of the street; between bays 7 and 8 is a tall separately coped and gabled transverse wall with no masonry joint visible to roadside. Street entrance adjacent to this with simply chamfered surround. 2-light, 6-paned windows to upper floors; basement windows boarded or with grilles. East (left) end wall with enlarged vehicle entrance under an advertisement hoarding. 12-bay rear elevation with fenestration as to front. Weaving sheds appear to survive intact (not inspected). Attached to south-west corner a square wing of 2 low storeys with 3 windows in west side, pyramidal roof. Chimney stack and engine house demolished.
