Pair of houses at end of row. Early to mid C19. Painted brick, some rendered, slate roof. 3 storeys, attic and basement, each 1 window. Each has a C20 dormer above 3-storey canted oriels with plain sash, and full width small modillion cornice to the top floor, but plain cornices below. The oriels stand on short cast-iron columns, and set back in the plane of the wall are casements at pavement level. The doors, on 5 stone steps with nosings, are centred; No.1 has a C20 door under a bricked-in fanlight, but No.2 retains a panelled door, in reeded pilasters and arch, under a radial fanlight. A blocking course and parapet, and stacks to each gable end; the return gable to South Parade is rendered, and has one 4-pane sash above a C20 door and C20 surround, on 2 steps. The back has 2 large dormers and sundry lights. INTERIOR: not inspected. This pair of houses is important visually in the view looking down Clarence Buildings, Esplanade (qv). (RCHME: Dorset: South-East: London: 1970-: 346).
