Range of mill buildings including kiln house and cottage, now part of factory. Probably late C18 and early C19. Coursed magnesian limestone, stone slate and sheet asbestos roofs. Elongated range of 3 builds. 4 and 3 storeys, 1:4:2 windows to 1st floor. Earliest part on left: large quoins; segmentally-arched door with unglazed window on right and old casement with glazing bars over; large C20 casement to 2nd floor and door on right giving access to bridge (not of special interest) forming link to Thorp Arch Mill (q.v.); casement window beneath segmental arch to 3rd floor. Concreted steps against left return give access to upper floor doorways. Adjoining 3-storey range set back on right has part-glazed door and 4-pane sash on left and on right a door with margin-glazed overlight and a 6-pane sash. 1st floor has small 2-light horizontally-sliding sashes with glazing bars and an altered 16-pane sash; C20 casements to 2nd floor. Angled back on right is a third range with segmentally-arched door to left, 3 casement windows and another door on right; large 2-light casements to 1st floor and external steps to segmentally-arched door on right; 2 small casements to 2nd floor. Interior:basement of 4-storey part has brick vaulting; roof has pattern-book king-post trusses. Thorp Arch Mill (q.v.) was originally built as a rape- seed oil mill in the lat C17 but this range probably served its later use as a paper mill under the ownership of Kelita Kitchen (Scott, p.21). Third part of range to right included for group value. B. M. Scott, Boston Spa, 1985.
