Details
SE 1606 UPPER GATE 14/362 Nos 13/14 and 15 (SE Part) and Adjoining Barns GV II
Farm group. Early C18 with alterations. Finely coursed rubble and hammer dressed stone. Quoins. Stone slate roofs, No 13/14 and part of barns reroofed. Chamfered gable copings on carved kneelers. Moulded stone brackets are probably of later date. Central ashlar stack to 13/14 and gable stack to 15, with moulded strings and caps. Two storeys. No 13/14, now one dwelling, is at 90° to group. South-east gable has entrance, probably later, and one 4-light double chamfered stone mullioned window with 2 mullions removed. To first floor is one 2-light double chamfered window. In gable apex is cross shaped ventilation slit in carved motif. C19 canted bay and north-east. No 15, south-east part only, has later ground floor window. Tall, double chamfered staircase window. To first floor is 4-light double chamfered window with one mullion removed. Adjoining barn has C19 doorway with segmental arch to both elevations. Barn to south at 90° has 2 small doorways with Tudor arch, one reset. String course to barns and No 15. King post trusses with struts. One post. Many reused timbers and some recent repairs including timber supporting posts. No 15, north-west part, not included in the item.
