Details

SOWERBY BRIDGE PLAIN LANE SE 0222 and SE 0322 (east side, off) 14/158 Long Royd - - II Range of cottages, now unoccupied. Part early C18 altered C19, and c1800. Thin coursed rubble, stone slate roofs. Later range 2 storeys, 4 first-floor windows, with earlier 2-storey cell at north-west end having northern outshut. North front: outshut of earlier cell projecting forward on right has quoins; a 4-light flat-faced mullion window with timber lintel; and a large corniced stack to right end. Left- hand range has quoins to right end; central paired blocked doorways with two 2-light windows to each side on both floors, the right-hand ground-floor window replaced by cart-entrance with girder lintel; openings have plain stone surrounds, the doors with tie-stones, the windows with flat-faced mullions and each with a 4-pane sash and a fixed 4-pane window; shaped kneeler and ashlar coping to right gable; 2 rebuilt ridge stacks. Rear: north-west cell has later doorway on right. Right- hand range as before, but doorways have no tie-stones and there is a 3rd doorway to left end, the windows to its right on ground floor partly blocked. In state of dereliction at time of resurvey.
