SD 92NE ERRINGDEN C.P. HORSEHOLD LANE, (north side) SD 983267 Hebden Bridge

1/10 No. 10 Horsehold and attached barn -

GV II House, late C16 with Cl9 alterations, with attached barn dated 1837. Large dressed stone, stone slate roof. 2 storeys. Hall and cross-wings plan, with through-passage. North west face has cross-wing breaking forward under cat- slide roof with main range, as at Cruttonstall (q.v.). Continuous cavetto moulded hoodmould continues over ground floor windows which are double chamfered with cavetto moulded mullions. (4-light window lacks original mullions. Over is a 4-light window. Set back is hall-range, but, C19 outshut blocks position of hall window. Former fire-window has single chamfer. 1st floor has 4-light flat faced mullioned window. 2-storey porch breaks forward in line with cross-wing and has similar cat-slide roof. 3-light window with same over. In right hand return wall is doorway with straight lintel, composite jambs with rebated chamfer with broach-and-roll stop, Main range has 2 former 2-light chamfered windows lacking mullions with a light opened between to service room. Over is 4-light flat faced mullioned window. Left hand return wall of cross-wing has inserted C19 doorway. Former 3-light chamfered window with 2-light window over. Horizontal break in stonework indicates that originally the gable ran the other way. Broad coped gable with kneelers. South east elevation has cross-wing breaking forward, former gable has altered double chamfered windows and inserted doorway. Hoodmould continues over. Set back is hall range rebuilt mid C19 with doorway with tie-stone jambs and flat faced mullioned window of 3 broad lights to each floor another similar bay before attached barn, 2 stacks. Interior not inspected. Break in stonework. Barn has quoins, coped gable with kneelers, and basket arched cart entry with simple Venetian window over, the lintel of which bears date and initials "H A" (Henry Appleyard). C. F.
