7/35 Gate-piers, flanking walls and Lodge to the Woodlands
II
Lodge and gate-piers and flanking walls. c1899. Hammer-dressed snecked stone, ashlar, stone slate roof. Single-storey lodge, L-shaped. Jacobethan style. Gabled wing to left has canted oriel window with deeply-chamfered mullioned windows. Coped gables with exaggerated giant kneelers and ball finials. Central ridge stack of 2 coupled diamond-set flues. Set back and protected by open porch, doorway with shaped lintel and chamfered surround. Rear has 2-light chamfered mullioned window and deeply-moulded eaves cornice. Hipped roof at junction with wing. Right-hand return has 2 chamfered windows and coped gable with false arrowslit to apex. Gate-piers have plinth, triple pilasters with moulded capital and carved motif to frieze surmounted by cornice with original wrought-iron lanterns. To either side, flanking walls segmental-arched on plan with square abutments with cornice and ball finial and ashlar coping with semicircular-reversed- arch with voussoirs aligned to the courses. Lodge to the Woodlands (q.v.).
