Gentleman's residence, once a Friends' Meeting House, altered to Town Hall and flanked by stable and coach-house ranges. c1770 for J. Atkinson Busfield, with infill blocks of late C19 or early C20 forming a long range. Hammer-dressed stone with ashlar dressings, Westmorland green-slate roof to house, stone slate roofs to lower stable and coach-house ranges. 2 storeys. House: 9-bay symmetrical facade, rusticated quoins,1st-floor band, eaves cornice. Doorway has pilasters, entablature and triangular pediment. Sashed windows with raised surrounds. Hipped roof with 2 stacks to each side of hip. Stable and coach-house-ranges each have a 5-bay facade, the central 3 bays projecting, with quoined angles, 1st-floor band and pedimented gable. Venetian window to ground floor. 2 ridge stacks to left block only.
