4/100 The Round House

II

Tower mill now 2 dwellings. 1793, converted 1835 (Clayton). For the Wentworth Estate. Thinly-coursed sandstone, roof not visible. Truncated 4-storey cone with small concentric lean-to to south-west side. Plinth. Ashlar surrounds dressed to the angle and curvature of the cone. Mill Lane side : door in glazed porch. Inserted ground-floor window to left has a horizontal-sliding sash with glazing bars. In line above 3 windows, the lower two have casements with glazing bars, the upper window a horizontal-sliding sash. To right of porch a blocked, quoined, doorway now with small window; above a blocked square opening. Similar sets of openings placed diametrically opposite those described. Glazed porch to rear encloses doorway with consoled pediment. Continuous band and cogged course beneath coped parapet.
