Combination farm buildings, part now forming a dwelling, (The Mews).
Dated 'J. W. / 1802'; altered, part converted to dwelling c1980, Coursed,
dressed sandstone, stone slate eaves to pantile roof. C20 pantiles to The
Mews. U-shaped plan enclosing yard facing Newhall Grange (q.v,), mostly
Two storeys, attached 1-storey, 4-bay shelter shed to range on right of yard
(The Mews). Central range facing yard consists of cowhouse and stable with
hayloft has doorway with cambered arch on left; six other square-headed
doorways with blocked ashlar surrounds, door lintel near centre with initials
and date. 1st floor: central blind quatrefoil flanked by slit vents and
alternate square and circular pitching holes, openings to left of quatrefoil
are boarded the others blind. Moulded eaves band. Range returns to left as
barn with central break forward having infilled round-arched waggon entrance;
infilled square hatches to 1st floor have lintels tooled as voussoirs.
Hipped roof. Opposite range (now The Mews): central break forward has waggon
entrance as barn now with C20 casement, and has extra storey above eaves band
with square-headed window flanked by blind oculi (the matching upper storey
over barn thus shown to be removed). Outer bays have C20 sashes to each
floor with plain lintels and projecting sills. Attached open-fronted shelter
shed on right has wooden posts and feeding rack within; left bay now
incorporated as part of The Mews, the rest forming garage. Hipped roofs, the
central part with stack on right and weathervane. Entrance front (rear) of
The Mews in same style with canopied entrance formed beneath the central
arch. Rear of barn range has infilled waggon entrance with voussoirs
removed. Included for group value.
