Details
SE60SW CANTLEY SCHOOL LANE (west side, off) 3/56 Cantley Hall Stables GV II Stable-block. Early C19. For the Cantley Hall estate. Cement-rendered brick, Graduated slate and sheet asbestos roofs. U-shaped plan with 2 storey, 1-bay centre connected by 1-storey, 2-bay links to 2-storey, 5-bay stable blocks each having a 1-storey wing projecting forwards. Centre has plinth, segmentally-arched carriage entrance and lst-floor band beneath later casement with projecting stone sill and cambered arch; dentilled eaves to hipped roof with apex finial and weathervane. 1-storey links each have a 6-panelled door on outside of an unequally-hung 20-pane sash with projecting sill and cambered arch. Stable-block on left: central 6-panelled door beneath round arch flanked by 20-pane sashes; round-arched doorways to outer bays, that on right blocked. 1st floor: projecting sills and cambered arches to later casements, central sill lowered; dentilled eaves to hipped roof. Stable-block on right: inserted central garage door and later canopy added on right, otherwise similar to left stable; unaltered 12-pane casements to 1st floor. Attached wing on right has 3 segmentally-arched garage doors and blocked doorway on right; hipped roof. Attached wing on left: unequally-hung 20-pane sashes to bays 1 and 3; 6-panel door with 4-pane overlight to bay 2; similar blocked doorway to bay 4; round arch on right with 2 doorways within. Rear: blind openings in rhythm of front; 6-pane sash over the arch. Interior; horse boxes with wooden partitions surmounted by iron railings.
