Details

STAINBOROUGH ROUND GREEN LANE SE30SW (north side) 1/37 Round Green Farmhouse GV II Farmhouse. C16 core with C18 and early C19 additions and later C19 alterations. Coursed, dressed sandstone, coated slate roof; wing set back on right is rubble-walled and has stone slate roof replaced by slate and C20 tiles at rear. Irregular plan: early C19 four-bay house to front left has 2 storeys with attics; earlier wing to rear left, wing set back on right curving round to rear right. Early C19 part: 16-pane sashes with projecting sills and lintels tooled as voussoirs; ashlar end stacks. 6-panel door in right return has overlight, ashlar surround and cornice; flanking 16-pane sashes, horizontal-sliding sash to attic. Wing on right: lower. Quoined basket archway with 6-pane sash and tripartite window to left having 2 sashes with glazing bars in half-dormers over. 6-pane sash above arch and to its right. Gabled bellcote dated '1843' flanked by ashlar ridge stacks. Rear: matching basket archway with double-chamfered, 3-light window and 6-panel door with overlight on its right. External steps to left; quoined rear part of wing of earlier build.

Interior: rear part of house has stop-chamfered doorway with shaped lintel now at link with early C19 front range. Back-to-back ashlar fireplaces with segmental arches and cornices. Wall post exposed in rear-left wing and exposed king-post truss (now in bathroom) with A-struts, probably mid C16.
