CARLTON HUSTHWAITE VILLAGE STREET SE 4876-4976 (north side) 10/24 - The Carlton Inn GV II
Public house. Probably early-mid C18 with later alterations. Brick in English garden wall bond; pantile roof. 2 storeys with loft and rear outshut, 3 first- floor windows. Between 2nd and 3rd windows, studded board door. Side-sliding sash windows of two lights except for first ground-floor window of 3 lights, all with wedge lintels. Tabled eaves. Tabled stacks between 1st and 2nd windows and at right end. There is evidence of blocked windows in first bay and over door. Left return: C20 semicircular ground-floor bay window not of special interest. Right return: external stepped stack; loft window; C20 lean-to single-storey extension not of special interest. Interior: stop-chamfered beams, including that formerly the bressummer of an inglenook fireplace in room to left of door. The first bay is probably an early addition.
