Details

NORTHALLERTON HIGH STREET SE 3693-3793 (east side, off) 7/24 Range to east of No 102 (previously included in 15.4.86 Item 1/13) GV II 3 cottages and/or workshops, now workshop. Dated 1751. Red brick in Flemish bond, corrugated sheet roof. 2 storeys, 8 first-floor openings. Ground floor: to left, blocked cart opening with keystone; 3 doorways with chamfered quoined ashlar surrounds with draughted margins and extended keyed lintels, the keystone of the central doorway dated; side-sliding sash windows. First floor: sash windows with glazing bars, some of 16 panes, with projecting ashlar sills and flush exposed sash boxes; 1 loading doorway matching ground-floor doorways; also 1 small round-arched vent, and another one, blocked. Dentil eaves. External stack to right. The range has been used as a printers for over a century, and here was printed by J Vasey, Rev J L Saywell's The History and Annals of Northallerton in 1885.
