GREWELTHORPE MAIN STREET SE 27 NW (east side) 5/26 Church of St James
GV II
Church. Late C19. Coursed squared stone, ashlar with Welsh slate roof. Nave with south porch and north aisle, chancel with vestry. Nave: 4 bays. Plinth. Diagonal offset buttresses to west end, others between bays. Pointed 2-light west window with reticulated tracery and hoodmould. West bay has gabled porch with pointed-arched doorway with hoodmould, stone coping and gable cross. Central bays have cusped lancets, east bay similar with paired lancets. North aisle similar. Stone coping with offset gabled bellcote to west, bell in chamfered pointed arched opening, eastern gable cross . Chancel: plinth, to east offset angle buttress. 1 bay, board priests door in chamfered Caernarvon arched stone surround, to right paired cusped lancets. Pointed east window of 3 lights with hoodmould, reticulated tracery. Stone coping, gable cross. Interior: 4-bay arcade, round piers with chamfered pointed arches, chancel arch similar.
