House, former inn. Early-mid C18 front, earlier core. Small local red brick in English garden wall bond with stepped eaves courses. Pantiled roof with brick copings and kneelers, end chimneys. Two storeys, three windows, large proportions. Gauged flat brick arches to sash windows with glazing bars in wood architraves. External boarded shutters. Central gabled modern porch in old materials. Interior: Original inglenook and beamed ceilings survive, also deep, barrel-vaulted cellars with stone-walled well. Lower, two-storey granary to left in similar materials. History: The former Malt Kiln Inn was the birth place of Major Christopher Richmond, friend of George Washington, who played a prominent part in the American War of Independence, and the subsequent legal settlements
