Brook House Farmhouse and outbuilding attached
II
Farmhouse and outbuilding. 1632 and 1826, dated on datestone and on door
lintel: Richard Harrison Anno Dom 1632. Rebuilt by Tho. Brown 1826. 2 builds
and left extension. Left part coursed sandstone on plinth; right part larger
and more evenly coursed tooled sandstone, also on plinth. Pantiled roofs with
stone ridge, copings, kneelers and stacks. 2 storeys, 2 windows and a 1-storey
set-back entrance bay running into a left outbuilding of 1 storey and loft,
itself of 2 builds. Boarded door with low overlight. Left bay has tripartite
window with central opening sash, 24 panes in all, under late C19 3-light sash,
both with projecting cills. Replaced 12-pane sashes in right bay. Gable
copings on block kneelers. End chimneys, the left probably original. Right
return has 2 late C19 sashes; left return shows fire window to right of the
large stepped projecting stack. Eaves band is continuous around left return and
chimney, whose steps are also banded. Outbuilding has a stable door, a boarded
door, 2 small windows and a raked loading dormer. Small left lean-to has stable
door. Boarded door and small windows to rear. Brick lean-to, attached to right
return, is not of special interest.
