6/76 The Vicarage
GV II
Vicarage. 1850 probably by William Butterfield. Coursed squared sandstone; purple slate roof with stone stacks. Entrance front 2 tall storeys, 3 bays and a one-bay left entrance section holding a Tudor-arched, ledged-and-boarded door with long hinges. Similar door in central bay under a 3-light mullioned-and-transomed window with Tudor-arched heads to lights. In left bay similar windows with square heads, the upper under a coped half-dormer. Right bay holds projecting chimney breast. Door surrounds are hollow-chamfered and eaves are coved. High-pitched roof with ridged gable copings. Corniced, stepped chimneys.
Garden front on right return 3 bays, irregular, the left gabled and projecting. Similar door, with elaborate hinges, in centre under triple overlight. Above and to right a 2-light window under gabled half dormer. Ground floor right 3-light window; carved armorial panel in otherwise blank wall above. Left bay 3- and 4-light windows; Tudor-arched heads to lights, hoodmoulds with diamond label stops to all windows.
Twin-gabled rear elevation has similar features.
