Coach-house and stables, now offices and store rooms. c1762, with later alterations. For Edward Daniel Lascelles. Magnesian limestone ashlar with stone slate roof. Almost square on plan around central courtyard. Main north range is 2 storeys, 5 bays with fenestration arranged 2-3-2, 3 central bays advanced and pedimented, east and west wings are single storey, 7 bays and south returns are each single storey and have 3 bays, the centre is open. Plinth runs around whole range. Main range: central round-arched coach entrance with moulded arch. To second and fifth bays are stable entrances, plank double doors with 8-pane overlights beneath mock fanlights painted with glazing bars and with voussoir arches. Otherwise ground floor has 12-pane sashes with radial glazing to heads under voussoired arches and with ashlar sills. Continuous impost band. First floor has 6-pane sashes under flat arches of gauged ashlar. Moulded cornice and pediment. Hipped roof. End stacks. Central ornamental cupola with clock to base, arcaded top with domed roof and weather-vane dated 1827. West wing: entrances to second, fourth and seventh bays have double fielded- panel doors with 6, 8 and 10-pane overlights and mock fanlights with radial glazing. Four 12-pane sashes with radial glazing to heads, ashlar sills. All under voussoired arches and with continuous impost band. East wing: opening to first bay, stable entrances to fourth, sixth and seventh bays have plank and fielded-panel doors. 12-pane sashes with radial glazing co heads, voussoired arches and ashlar sills . Continuous impost bands. South ranges, alike. Three segmental-arched carriage openings with double fielded-panel doors, and fanlights, those to left with multi-paned glazing. Impost bands. Hipped roofs. Ridge stacks. Pevsner N, Yorkshire: The West Riding, 1979 p 648.
