House. Mid C16, with later alterations. Plastered and colourwashed timber frame. Plaintile roofs. L-shaped plan consisting of a principal east-west range parallel to street and a cross wing at east end extending south. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys. Main range is a 3-window range at first floor. Ground floor with exposed close studding in which are set two 10/10 unhorned sashes in flush frames. These interrupt two frieze windows which show now as one 5-light hollow-mullioned blocked window either side of the sashes, 4 in all. To left is a 6-panelled C18 fielded panelled door set within eared doorcase beneath a pulvinated frieze and pediment. Traces of plaster panelling to first floor. One small casement over door, two 10/10 unhorned sashes within flush frames to right, placed immediately over those to ground floor. Gabled roof with ridge stack set left of centre. Rear is a 4-window range with addition of canted 2-storey early C17 stair turret under a pyramid roof. One 10/10 unhorned sash to right under 66 sash. French windows with margin glazing to extreme right, fenestration otherwise of mixed C19 and C20 casements. Cross wing facade presents gable end to street lit through one 10/10 unhorned sash to ground and first floors; 2-light attic casement. East return is a 4-window range of mixed C19 and C20 casements at first floor; lean-to outshuts to ground floor. Gabled roof with central ridge stack and external gable-end stack to south. Rear of cross wing with 2-light C20 casements. INTERIOR: timber frame of medium scantling, with jowled principal posts and straight corner braces. Principal range has boxed bridging beams to ground-floor rooms. Centre room with depressed 4-centred fireplace. Closed string early C17 staircase with turned balusters and newel posts and moulded handrails. First-floor west room with roll and wave-moulded wall plate and two blocked hollow-moulded mullioned 4-light windows. One unblocked 3-light hollow-moulded mullioned window in south wall. East end with 2 similar 4-light blocked mullioned windows. Roof of principal range not visible. Cross wing ground-floor room with mid C18 large-framed panelling, the chimneypiece set between fluted pilasters. Clasped purlin roof with curved windbraces.
