Details
CALTON CALTON LANE SD 95 NW (South Side) 9/5 Glendower House (Formerly listed as 10.9.54 Glendower) GV II House. Early C17. Slobbered squared rubble brought to course; stone dressings; stone slate roof. Two storeys, 3 bays. Garden front: 2 ground floor double chamfered windows with cavetto mullions on square stools, left-hand has 4 lights, right-hand has 6 lights with a king mullion; both have hood moulds. On upper floor, the left-hand window is double chamfered with 3 lights and cavetto mullions on square stools. To right were two similar 2-light windows but far right-hand window has mullion cut out. All windows have C20 casements and fixed lights. Left gable end ridge stack; ashlar ridge stack to left of centre and similar stack to right at former gable, now junction with Glendower Cottage (qv). Entrance in left gable has late C18 or early C19 porch with plain surround and cornice with cymarecta moulding over lintel. On upper floor is a one-light window with a chamfered surround and semi-circular head. Road front includes a 2-light double chamfered window with a cavetto mullion on square stool on the ground floor; 2 similar windows on upper floor but left-hand window has been altered and mullion is now missing. Early C20 outshut under catslide roof to right, now a garage.
