Details

KIRKBY MALHAM MALHAM ROAD SD 86 SE (North Side) 6/12 The Rookery II House, late C17 origin, refronted late C18 and extended late C19. Rubble, stone dressings, stone slate roof. Two storeys, double fronted. Door to left of centre with plain surround flanked by brackets carrying pediment. C19 door with Gothick glazing. Windows with raised hollow chamfered surrounds. Moulded doorway to left into original entrance lobby, blocked with C19 quatrefoil light. Stone stacks on right-hand gable and ridge stack at junction of original house and extension. Slightly projecting one bay C19 extension of rock-faced stone to left has raised band between floors, modillions at eaves. Gable end stack with twin octagonal shafts. All windows have late C19 sashes without glazing bars. Windows of various dates to rear including one C17 with 3 lights and chamfered mullions. Interior: massive inglenook fireplace in line with original doorway. Massive stone segmental bressummer in three pieces with lines incised to represent voussoirs of a type common up to the late C17.
