Details
LANGCLIFFE SD 86 NW 2/5 Langcliffe High Mill (formerly listed as Principal Mill building at 7.4.77 Langcliffe Hill Mill to south-west of Principal Mill building at Langcliffe GV High Mill) II Former cotton mill, now paper mill. 1784-86 for George and William Clayton and R Walshman. Watershot masonry, stone dressings, stone slate roof. North front extended to left. Right-hand block c1784: 6 storey, 9 bays. Fourth and seventh bays project slightly. Left-hand round-headed entrance from mill leat, now blocked. Windows have plain surrounds and projecting sills; C20 casements. Right-hand gable coping, and kneeler; similar coping and kneeler at former left-hand gable, now junction with left-hand extension (qv). Left-hand extension c.1786: 5 storeys, 14 bays. Central 6 bays break forward slightly. Windows are similar but smaller, to those in right- hand block. The ground is higher to the left, consequently the roofs of both blocks are at the same height.
