8/82 Further Surgill Head Farmhouse and attached barn
II
Farmhouse, 1666, altered with barn, 1673, altered. Coursed dressed stone (to front of house) and rubble, with stone slate roofs. Two-cell plan with attached barn now brought partly into house and further barn at right angles. House of two storeys and three bays. 3-light flush square mullion windows to each floor on either side of enclosed gabled porch with kneelers. Porch of C19 but with chamfered surround to doorway and massive lintel. Chimneys to left hand gable and to centre of ridge. At rear is one 2-light double chamfered stone mullion window and a chamfered doorway. Former barn, next to house, has modern cart entry and some chamfered openings. Set into wall is plaque with raised lettering:
RICHARD AND IENNET HINDLE M:19:AD:1666
Attached is later barn with chamfered elliptical-headed cart entry (the voussoirs numbered for assembly). By side of this entry is another stone reading RH.IH 1673 RD. Inside the house there is chamfered doorway with Tudor head between the main rooms.
