HELLIFIELD SD 85 NW 7/2 Arnford Farmhouse 20.2.58 - II*
Formerly 2 semi-detached houses, now one farmhouse. c1700 with C20 alterations, Slobbered squared rubble, millstone grit dressings, stone slate roof. Both houses formerly lobby entry plan. 2 storeys, 8 bays, comprising symmetrical houses of 4 bays each. Left-hand house: stone plinth, central entrance with moulded surround and roll moulding to hood; pulvinated frieze; c1970 glazed door. 4 chamfered cross windows per storey, c1970 casements; dripmoulds. Pointed arched moulding above entrance, original finial missing. Gabled dormer to right of centre contains 2-light chamfered mullioned window with round headed single light above. Kneelers to dormer gable and spike finial at apex. Gable end kneeler. Gable end ridge and ridge stack to left of centre. Right-hand house is a mirror image. Interior: front left room contains segmental arched inglenook with chamfered surround, 15 voussoirs. Right-hand chamfered entrance with segmental head. Inglenook is right-hand side reputedly hidden by C20 fireplace.
