8/258 Newstead Mill
G.V. II
Corn mill. c.1840. Coursed limestone rubble, ashlar quoins and dressings, hipped Collyweston slate roof, overhanging eaves on brackets. 7 x 2 bay box. 4 storey with attics, 7 bay front with plinth, 3 cill bands, central double planked doors with to left a later planked opening and 2 windows, to right 3 blocked windows. To first floor a central planked door, flanked by 3 windows. Second and third floors are similar but with square windows. All windows are pivoting cast iron glazing bar lights in ashlar surrounds with keystones. In the roof a central dormer over the upper doorway and a single hipped dormer window. In front of the building a coped stone wall contains 2 segmental stone arches with keystones for the mill race. At the rear an iron sluice gate with drive gear wheels. To the right hand side a segmental arch head opening with keyblock gives access to wheel chamber and race.
