9/248 Uffington House Restaurant

G.V. II

Former house, now restaurant. 1674, altered and extended 1868. Squared coursed limestone rubble, ashlar quoins and dressings, and ashlar. Collyweston slate roofs, stone coped gables, single gable ridge and wall ashlar stacks. Single storey plus attics, 5 bay Cl7 range with to right 2 storey, 2 bay C19 addition at right angles. Half glazed doors flanked by pairs of plain casements, all with chamfered surrounds and mullions. Over the door a square ashlar plaque has the dates 1674 and 1868 with Bertie initials. In the roof are 3 gabled dormers with 2 light casements and slate hung cheeks. To the right the gabled C19 range has moulded string course and n the ground floor 2 cross mullioned windows and on the upper floor single 3 light window, all chamfered. Interior retains its chamfered girders. In the hall a late C18 Carrera moulded fire surround with flutes, swag and paterae.
